Members Of Medical Auxiliary Attend Executive Board Meeting In Houston
POPULAR ATLANTANS, Mrs. F. Earle McLendon and Mrs. J. B. Harris are back from a most interesting meeting of the Executive Board of the National Medical Auxiliary that was held in Houston, Texas on February 20-21 in the very beautiful new YWCA in that city. The Atlanta matrons made the trip by plane.
More than twenty auxiliary members from all over the United States were in attendance with Mrs. McLendon, first vice president; Mrs. R. Stillman Smith, president, of Macon, Ga.; and Mrs. Harris, parliamentarian, the only Georgians present. Mrs. D. R. Green, Sr., associate editor, was not able to attend.
Specifically, the board met to outline the program for the national body; and to complete the business side of the agenda; however, the body of civic leaders in their respective communities were feted no end by Houstorians. Dr. Thelma Patten Law, and her husband, entertained with a get-acquainted party at their residence which followed the luncheon at the YWCA at which time the Houston Auxiliary feted the group and showed them Houston by way of a motorcade.
Dr. and Mrs. J. H. Langford, (she is zone director of the auxiliary) entertained with coffee. Dr. and Mrs. Bowie entertained with a supper party, real Texas style with the hosts presenting each guest with a large passport and big money, too, to enter the state of Texas. Along with that were souvenirs. The whole state was hand-printed on the handkerchiefs...On Sunday, Houston Links feted the visiting Links...Included were Mrs. Hazel Panell, of Nashville, Mrs. F. Earl McLendon and Mrs. Alice Hayes of Niagara Falls, N. Y.
It was a luncheon at the residence of Dr. and Mrs. Davis which was followed by a formal reception for the visitors at the residence of Dr. and Mrs. G. E. A. Forde from there the body moved over to the well-appointed residence of Dr. and Mrs. J. B. Bowles for a Smorgasbord.
Dr. Bowles and Mrs. McLendon were classmates at Fisk University.
Present at the meeting was the founder and first president, Mrs. Alma Givens, Norfolk, Va. The Atlantans arrived home on Tuesday.
