ANNIVERSARY SERMON
Rev. Dr. Aaron E. Ballard Talks
at Franklin Street Church.
A large congregation was present to greet the venerable Rev. Dr. Aaron Ballard, the octogenarian president of the Ocean Grove Association, who filled the pulpit at the Franklin Street M. E. Church at the morning service yesterday.
It was the anniversary sermon that Dr. Ballard preaches at the local church each year in commemoration of the fact that when a young man he was converted in the old edifice that formerly occupied the present site of the new church.
The chorus choir sang special numbers and the pastor, the Rev. Melville Young Bovard, spoke eloquently in commending Dr. Ballard's long career in the ministry. He affiliated with the Franklin Street Church in 1839 and is in his ninetieth year.
Chorister Herbert Fleming led the choir and Mrs. Fleming was the organist. A reception was tendered the aged divine at the close of the service.
