Promoters Expect Record Entry In "Open" Golf Meet

A record entry exceeding last years 175 is expected at the 12th annual Minnesota Negro Open Golf Tournament (for amateurs) sponsored by Jimmy Slemmons and Ted Allen Saturday and Sunday, June 26 and 27, at Theodore Wirth Golf Course, Minneapolis Minnesota.

The affair is a 36 hole event.

Last year's champions Mrs Alyce Stewart of Detroit, Michigan and LeRoy Tyus of St, Louis Missouri, are expected to defend their championships.

A highlight of the tournament will be whether or not Mrs Ann Gregory of Gary, Indiana, a member of the Women's Golf Club of Chicago, Illinois, and National Negro Woman Amateur Champion will be able to keep Mrs Stewart from taking home for keeps the women's leg trophy which she won in 1952 and 1953, Mrs, Stewart is a former national champion also.

The tournament consists of three divisions, namely, men, women and juniors.
