In Senate,
Dec. 26.—The bill authorizing the President of the U. S. to cause certain roads to be opened in the Territory of Arkansas, was read a third time and passed.
The bill, from the House of Representatives, for further extending the time for locating certain donation claims in the Territory of Arkansas, was twice read and referred.
House of Representatives,
Dec. 26.—On motion of Mr. SEVIER,
Resolved, That the Committee on Commerce be instructed to inquire into the expediency of making an appropriation for the survey of White and St. Francis rivers, with a view of making an appropriation to improve their navigation.
Mr. Wickliffe from the Committee on Public Lands, reported a bill further to extend the time for entering certain donation claims to land in the Territory of Arkansas; and, after a brief explanation by Mr. Wickliffe, was ordered to be engrossed for a third reading. [Passed on the 27th.]
Dec. 28.—The House went into Committee of the Whole, on the following bills, which were reported to the House, and the further consideration postponed until Jan. 3d:—
A bill to authorize the legal representatives of De Maison Rouge, and those claiming under him, to institute suit against the U. S. &c.—
A bill to enable the heirs of Elisha Winter to institute a suit against the United States.
Messrs. Calhoun, of South Carolina, and Rives, of Virginia, took their seats on the 4th ult. in the Senate of the United States.
