Our treatment of Gen. Scott seems to be a matter of peculiar concern to the Republican. We beg at once to relieve its solicitude, by saying that we have the highest opinion of the military genius of that officer, and the greatest respect and esteem for his character as a man—a character, the noble qualities of which are known to us by long and friendly intercourse, and we defy the Republican to produce any paragraph from our paper, inconsistent with the personal relations which such an avowal implies.
