Two More Colored Men Join Over 80-Yrs. Club

The Advertiser added two more names to its Over 80 Years Old Club the past week following a lull in response the past few weeks. They were both colored, Green Pitchford of Rt. 3, and Frank Donelson, Hickory Springs.

Green is 85 years old. He is a native of the county born on the old Joe Hodges place north of town. He has stayed in Holmes all his life, making one trip in this long span of years to Jackson. He has two sons living, Henry Pitchford at Louise, and Link Pitchford at Memphis. Green also told of another old negro, Jack Gordon of Mt. Olive, who was 106 years old. Two weeks ago he died and was buried at Shady Grove. This centenarian has been mentioned in this column before during the writeups.

Frank Donelson, the other old-timer, is 86 years old. He was born near Acona on the old Jordan Bailey place. He is still rather spry for his age and gets about without any trouble whatever.

Frank has done well by his race in perpetuating its people, having a large family of sons and daughters. They are, Ben Donelson at Shotwell plantation, Jim Donelson, Howard; Sallie Patton, Hickory Springs, with whom he makes his home; Louise Beverly, Albino plantation; Millie Gowen, Teocula; Mattie Patton, Sweet Home; Ella Kimbrough, Lebanon, and Annie Donelson, Greenwood.

If you are over 80 years old, let The Advertiser know about you. Many in this group are to be found in the county, and your history is interesting to your friends. Tell us of yourself by writing or coming by the office.

Mrs. Harvey Campbell and Betty attended the show in Durant Tuesday night.
