Full Text

Free Territory.

The dough-face portion of the Northern press, are now advocating the propriety of leaving the question of the Constitutionality of Slavery in the new territories, an open question, to be settled by the Supreme Court of the United States. They affect to believe that the decision of that Court, will be against the right to hold slaves there; although they well know that in the organization of that Court, the Slave interest holds the preponderance of power. Is any man silly enough to think that a Slave who may be carried into California by his master will be able to institute a suit for his freedom and maintain it? To carry the question into the Supreme Court, the value of the slave must be at least $2,000, and security for costs &c., must be given to at least twice that amount.
