STERILIZATION FOR RAPIST

Tacoma—Harry Lambert Jr., 22-year-old Fort Lewis soldier and Tacoma-resident, today was sentenced to two life terms in the state penitentiary for the rape of two 10-year-old white girls.

The sentence imposed by Superior Judge Bartlett Rummel also called for a sterilization operation.

Lambert pleaded guilty to the rape of the first girl February 17 of this year and the second on October 30. Both assaults occurred at Salishan, a housing project in southeast Tacoma.

The operation ordered by Judge Rummel is authorized by a state law which permits such action in rape cases.

Lambert was a private of the Ninth Infantry Regiment, a part of the Second Infantry Division at Fort Lewis. He had been living in Salishan with his wife and one child.
