News of Sealers

SAN FRANCISCO, June 8—H. A. Thompson, the well-known owner of a number of sealers, has received a letter from Honodate, Japan, from Capt. Chas. Hartwain, of the sealing schooner Louisa D, which states that he had just escaped that place and would undergo repairs. The captain reported that on May 1 a boat containing the second mate, a sailor and the cabin boy was lost. A hurricane coming up made it impossible to look for them. As there were a number of other sealing schooners in the vicinity he expressed a belief in the letter that the missing boat may hastily be picked up. During the storm three of the boats were stove in while lashed to the deck and other damage was done.
