John Grey, in his 109th year, claimed as the last surviving soldier of the Revolution, born at Fairfax Court House, Va., Jan. 7, 1764. Worked on Mt. Vernon estate for Washington during the Revolution. Enlisted at age sixteen after father's death, served till war's close, mustered out at Richmond, Va. Engaged in several battles, present at surrender of Cornwallis at Yorktown. Member of Methodist church for seventy-eight years. Zealous Republican.
