A Dance Broken Up and Two Arrests Made.
There was an interesting time at a dance in connection with the saloon of C. Mattison, 114 First street north, last night. As a result Officers Daly and Hallman locked up two men for disorderly conduct, Mattison's dance was closed up and several people were hurt. The stories of witnesses conflict, but it is alleged that the two prisoners, who gave their names as Joseph Nustadt and H. J. Stadt, were out looking for trouble. Nustadt and Stadt were in the dance hall and began to make trouble by asking every one present to take a drink from a bottle they had with them. Mrs. Mattison asked them to behave and one of them knocked her down, in so doing breaking her thumb. Myrtle Gray, residing at Twelfth avenue north and Washington, was struck in three places in the face by one of the men. She was senseless for half an hour. The bartender was also struck, as well as several other bystanders. The men who caused the trouble then ran, but did not escape the vigilance of Officers Hallman and Daly. Nustadt sustained a bad cut on the back of his head, which a bystander stated Mattison inflicted with a heavy club. Stadt was also cut on the head and had a badly swollen eye. After the fight the police closed Mattison's dance, and it is likely that he will not be permitted to resume.
