Eight Bodies Are Recovered In Cloudburst Believed Total Death Toll In Catastrophe Will Never Be Known; 13 Given Up As Lost

BAKERSFIELD, Oct. 3.—Searchers in the mountainous Tehachapi area expressed belief today that the total death toll from Friday's cloudburst may never be known.

Eight bodies were recovered. 13 other persons are given up as lost, and possibly 20 unidentified itinerants are believed swept to their deaths by the 40-foot wall of water that came down the pass following the cloudburst.

Tons of debris swept through the canyons and searchers said many bodies were undoubtedly buried.
