The Indianapolis Journal says: We heard yesterday from good authority, that ex-Governor Paris C. Dunning, one of the ablest and firmest of the friends of Mr. Douglas in this State, has avowed his intention to support Mr. Lincoln, as he sees his own preference cannot be realized. We are also informed that Mr. Bryant, the present State Librarian, expressed a similar determination.
The same paper further says: There is no doubt that very many sincere Douglas men, who adhered to him because they believed his policy would operate as effectually against the extension of slavery as any other, without needless irritation of the slave States, and who desired honestly to give free labor the ascendency it deserves in the Territories, see now that his chance is hopeless, and there only man through whom their views can possibly be realized is Abraham Lincoln; an honest and conservative man they all know, and the last man on earth to tolerate any aggression, or improper irritation of one section by another.
