The New York Packet

On the 17th July last, James Wilson and William Stewart were committed to the new gaol, charged with robbing, on the high way, from Peter Pornet, one gold watch and chain, and one stock-buckle. This happened a night or two before, between the hours of nine and ten, in the Bowery-lane, when Mr. Pornet returning home in company with Mr. Barney, they were stopped by those two fellows, who presented a long knife to their breasts, and demanded their money; they obliged Mr. Barney to deliver them his buckles out of his shoes and knees, but returned them again upon finding the gold watch and stock-buckle, with which they went off, threatening vengeance to Pornet and Barney, if they offered to alarm the neighbourhood: Still the neighbours were alarmed, and pursuing the robbers, one of them was taken, in a ditch near Bunker's hill, with the watch in his pocket; and the other, by the vigilance of the Magistrates, was also soon secured.
