HON. JOHN A. ROCKWELL
The Washington correspondent of the Evening Express, pays the following handsome compliment to this Representative from Connecticut;
While upon this subject, it is due to Mr. Rockwell, of Connecticut, to say one word in praise of his patient and careful labor upon the Committee on Claims, of which he was last year a subordinate member, and of which he is now a Chairman.
"Last year, as the clerk of the committee informs me, Mr. R. wrote not less than fifty reports, some of them very long and requiring great labor, and the most careful research. This year, a double-duty will be imposed upon him—and as the public know nothing of these severe home, indoor, and committee labors, it is right that some mention should be made of them. Here indeed, as the constituents of all members ought to know, is the time and place of labor. Congress may be in session but three or four hours of a day which to the working members may have been longer than between the rising and setting sun."
