"The very air and body of the time is form and pressure."
There never was, perhaps, a time when the public expectation was more on tip-toe for news, or when those whose province it is to collect it, had a thinner field to glean in, than the present. We have reason to suppose that the late operations of the French and Allied Armies, have been of a decisive character both on the Continent and on the Peninsula, and indeed that the fate of Europe has been determined before this time, is more than probable. There have been no arrivals from Europe by which we could have received intelligence later than that of the Robert Burns, of course we have reason to expect a large budget of news by the next arrival. The mails bring nothing satisfactory relative to our own military matters in Canada. Some of the shrewdest of our corner politicians guess however, that Montreal and Quebec, are both our's long before this. A few days more will in all probability, furnish us with something interesting both as to our affairs at home & abroad.
