Cameron's Promise.
The voters of Douglas and Bisbee have heard Ralph H. Cameron announce that he sees a way to secure the aid of the United States government in making the Sulphur Springs valley into a second Garden of Eden, a paradise in Arizona. And Senator Cameron has never failed to keep a promise made to the voters. That promise is one that means so much to Douglas, to Bisbee, to all of Cochise county and to Arizona that every voter, male or female, who has the best interests of Arizona at heart, irrespective of political belief, will want to see Cameron returned to the senate to carry out his promise. The senator has made two promises to this county and to the state which mean so much to us all that should Cochise county fail to give Senator Cameron an overwhelming vote in November, the old adage about cutting off the nose to spite the face will have gained additional proof of need of coinage.
Senator Cameron has promised the voters of Arizona that he will fight tooth and toenail for a six cent tariff on copper, which once imposed against the imported copper which has been and is being produced by native labor in foreign lands, will enable American producers, and more particularly of interest to us, here, Arizona producers, to operate their plants as they should like to see them operated.
The plan of Senator Cameron for making the Sulphur Springs valley such a valuable place to Arizona is not the work of a day. He has worked upon the problem for some time, and has long had some plan in view. His first idea was to reach the water in the valley and then build a huge dam to impound it. Now he has decided that such a plan is not feasible, after having had the advice of expert engineers, and has therefore decided to make a fight to have the government grant an appropriation with which to build a giant power plant in the valley, this plant to supply the farmers with the needed electrical power for operating their own pumping devices to bring up the water from its shallow depth. This power could be furnished so cheaply, Senator Cameron avers, that the farmers would be able to place water on their lands through such a method more cheaply than is now possible in places where irrigation water is furnished through gravity flow.
Once such a plant is installed in the Sulphur Springs valley, Douglas, Bisbee and Cochise county will experience a growth and an attendant increase in prosperity that will prove astounding, even to the most optimistic. Douglas men of foresight have long looked toward the Sulphur Springs valley as a future salvation for this area, and the plan of Senator Cameron will insure these men of fulfillment of their good judgment.
