The body of a man was yesterday picked up on the shore near Pachena Point, lying beside a lifeboat and three life-belts, all of which bore the name "Alaskan."
The crew of the steamer numbered from seven to ten men, all of whom lived at Victoria.
The Alaskan was built at San Francisco thirty years ago and has been in service in the North Pacific for many years, formerly plying between Seattle and Alaska.
The Alaskan was a 40-horsepower vessel of 29 gross tons, with a length of 52 feet, and has been used as a freighter and passenger boat on short runs along the British Columbia coast.

VICTORIA, Jan. 5.—The death list, as the result of the sinking of the little coast-wise steamer Alaskan off Vancouver Island Tuesday night is placed today at twelve members of her crew, according to the latest information. No details of the wreck have so far been available.
