-Mrs. Ed Boyd was a St. Joseph visitor Monday.
-Chas Reed returned home Monday evening from Camp Dodge, Iowa, where he had been visiting since Saturday with his brother Lawrence, and several other of the boys from here. He reported the boys as making good.
-Medway Hoover and family spent the day Sunday at the Wilmer Buntz home near Mound City.
-Mr. A. B. Rose of Bigelow was transacting business in our city Monday.
-Misses Cora Acton and Lorene Cook were shopping in Oregon Saturday.
J. T. Scott, wife and Lois Dickson visited Sunday at the P. V. Scott home.
-Hugh Wilson and family of Oregon, and Jesse Cain and family of Union district, spent the day Sunday at the Roy Wilkes home north of Mound City.
-V. H. Brock family and E. Brock drove up to Fairfax Tuesday and spent the day with T. J. Louden and family.
-Chas. Mills is remodeling the house of Frank McFarland in Kimsey district by adding two rooms and a porch.
-Galen Mills of St. Joseph visited Saturday and Sunday with his folks, Chas. Mills and family.
-Mrs. Ellen Landers was on our sick list the first of this week.
-Miss Lennis Glass returned home Friday from Kansas City, where she has been visiting with Mr. and Mrs. C. D. Williams.
-R. H. Sheffield and wife spent the day Sunday at the Mrs. A. J. Jamison home.
-Mrs. Nev Dickson and two children, Elizabeth and Frances, of St. Joseph came up Monday and are visiting with her folks, L. J. Scott and family. They have shipped their household goods to Stark City, Mo., where they will make their home, and where Mr. Dickson is in the banking business. May success and health attend them.
Walter Lottenville and family of Tulsa, Oklahoma, are visiting several days this week at the John Birmingham home.
-Mrs. Sarah Rieger and family of Preston, Neb., spent the day Sunday at the I. A. Banks home.
-I. A. Banks informs us that his brother Matthew Banks has been called to the colors and will go to Camp Funston next Saturday.
-Mrs. Nate Martin and children of Clarinda, Iowa, visited the first of the week with her mother, Mrs. G. M. Waddle and family.
-Wednesday of last week, Mrs. C. M. Pierson gave an excellent talk to the Red Cross ladies on conserving and canning fruit. Mrs. Pierson is from the State University, Columbia, Mo. She is giving her time to this work while her husband is in France.
-Mr. John Overman and Mr. Lonnie Conaway of Highland, Kansas, are visiting with their sister and cousins, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Stroud.
-Lewis Stroud and wife, Escol Stalcup and wife, and Mrs. John Schaefer visited Sunday with George Stroud and family.
-Mr. and Mrs. Willis Jenne and son Harry Jenne and his wife of Falls City, Neb., visited Sunday at the H. L. Everson home. Mrs. Willis Jenne was a sister to Mrs. Everson's mother.
-The members of the Thursday Afternoon Club and their families had a picnic Tuesday afternoon at the Schaefer school house ground.
-Dr. and Mrs. F. E. Bullock are spending a few days this week at Sugar Lake.
-Mrs. Riley Turney and son Bertram Fairbank and daughter Miss Genevieve Turney returned home Tuesday from Auburn, Neb., where they drove through in their car, taking Mrs. K. M. Armstrong home.

-Mrs. Rev. Weimer and little son spent Saturday night and Sunday at the home of Robert Emerson and Mrs. Emma Staley.
-J. L. Andler and little sons Noel and Russell made a trip to St. Joseph Saturday.
-Little Wayne Staley, who was operated on at St. Joseph one day last week, returned home with his father Thursday of last week.
-R. L. Field and son George, who have been visiting in Grant City, returned home Thursday of last week.
-The Children's Day program was well attended, as many had to stand outside. The boys' drill was left out because of the absence of two of the boys.
Miss Elizabeth Field, who has been with her cousin Cora Field at the Ensworth Hospital of St. Joseph, returned home Monday evening.
-Miss Cora Field underwent an operation for the removal of her appendix and stomach trouble at the Ensworth hospital last Wednesday, and is getting along finely, we are glad to know.
-Gale Emerson and wife and Mrs. Bessie Staley visited Miss Cora Field at the hospital at St. Joseph one day last week.
-Miss Bertha Keller and brothers Steve and Herbert of Maitland visited their cousins Carl Wrights and attended the Children's Day entertainment last Sunday evening.

We feel keenly the loss of our dear husband and father, and we also feel deeply grateful to our friends and neighbors for their many acts of kindness and brotherly love shown us during the illness and death of him we loved so much.

-Barney Hodgin, who is now in the engineer branch of the service, has been home on a visit with his mother, Mrs. Joseph Hodgin of Maitland. He stopped here over Monday to visit relatives and friends. He is on his way to Vancouver, Washington, where he will enter the draughtman's division of the engineer corps.
