Savannah Man Appeals Plea In Murder Case

SAVANNAH GA - J. C. Smith,
52-year-old axe slayer, is further appealing to the State Supreme Court the question of whether or not a Superior Court judge may decline to accept a guilty plea in a murder case.

Last week the Supreme Court threw out a bill of exceptions filed by Smith's attorney, Aaron Kravitch. It was contended that Superior Judge Dunbar Harrison erred in refusing to accept Smith's offer to enter a plea to the charge of murdering his wife. The Supreme Court ruled that the bill of exception was tendered prematurely.

Now Atty Kravitch is asking the court to rule directly on the question.
