From the New York Age.

MR. WRIGHT's LETTER.—We recommend to an attentive perusal the letter of Silas Wright to Mr. Van Buren, which will be found in our columns.— We trust it will go into other States. To what base uses, voters of Pennsylvania, Virginia and Georgia, must ye come to at last! You will follow your Enquirers, and Sentinels, and suppose you are fighting the battles of republicanism, while there is not a nation trampled beneath the bestial hoof of military despotism, which does exercise an equally effective influence in the choice of its rulers, as caucus ridden New York, and its comrades.

Mr. Sanford will be impressed with this letter.— Does he remember the evening in which the "magician" called on him to "influence" him, as Wright suggested How adroitly it was done! First, the news of the day was discussed, and some delicate compliments insinuated at the ability of Mr. Van Buren's colleague in debate a short time since— Then New York comes on the tapis, and the political ferment talked over. The expectant Secretary observed that the whole state demanded an eminent republican for its candidate; and then began the home push—we can hear it now, "I really believe, Sanford, nobody but you will satisfy them!" Then the conversation diverged, while the cunning manager watched the effects of his hints. He came back again, shortly, with "By the bye, I had a letter from Wright, this morning." "He says the republicans of the State demand Chancellor Sanford, and that he can be elected by an overwhelming majority."

We shall not further trace the conversation. Mr. Sanford will remember it. He was wonderfully tickled at the time and looked with much complacency on his sincere friend. if he is equally pleased now when he sees that he was a mere tame instrument in the hands of a wily conjurer, we shall not complain. It is no business of ours

Just in this way is Enos T. Throop now set up. After this manner, was the veteran of Delaware shuffled off. And thus is the state of New-York cajoled, managed, and governed Talk of "republican usages!" where is the man not a thorough paced knave, or a hopeless dolt, who does not understand them to be the mere instruments of banded conspirators, who care as little for liberty, freedom, and popular rights, as the Venetian Council of Ten, or the Captain General of the order of Jesuits?

Just in this manner is the President controlled. The old man is allowed to get in a passion, to smoke his pipe, and sign his name, while his cunning Secretary flatters, and suggests, and instigates, and turns out of offices, and all the while picks his chestnuts from the fire with the old gentleman's fingers,

"Ca ira!"

Long live the usages of the party! and success to Martin Van Buren, the purest model of a Statesman, Since Fouche is dead, and Talleyrand is superannuated.
