Full Text

Fears of Judge Lynch.

Fears were entertained by the officers that an attempt to lynch Kendrick would be made by the friends of the quiet, inoffensive old man who was so brutally murdered on the 28th of last August, and a close watch was kept both nights after the sentence was pronounced; and although Judge Bigelow gave him the full extent of the law for murder in the second degree, the people feel that the murderer has escaped the just deserts of his foul crime.
After the train arrived yesterday morning Kendrick was taken from the jail and quietly marched down a back street, thence to the train which was boarded without meeting with any opposition. This is well; for if the jury was wrong in rendering such a verdict it is better to submit quietly than to resort to violence which might have resulted in the loss of one or more lives.
