On the 6th, arrived at the Cape, the frigate La Concorde, of 44 guns and 4 howitzers, with the new governor and his family. This vessel left Brest the 6th of April, with about five millions of money.
She brings accounts that "Gen. Dumourier had quitted his army in France, having been seduced by dint of gold. Luckily his flight was not attended with any ill consequences—Twenty ships of the line were in the Mediterranean, and eight in the channel. Forty more ships were fitting out at Brest, to be ready the beginning of May for sea. There was not a man in the French army found base enough to accompany Gen. Dumourier, when deserting the cause of Liberty and his country."
