From the inquiries we get in the
county Agricultural Stabilization
and Conservation office from time
to time it is apparent that some
of our readers are not familiar
with the programs that we carry
out or do not know just what
these programs are intended to
accomplish. As sort of an explanation to these folks, I'd like
to review the set up of our organization and all of the programs
that we have the responsibility
of carrying out.

County Extension Agent is an Ex-
officio member of the County
Committee. In addition to County
Committeemen, Community ASC
Committeemen are elected
in
every agricultural community in
the state. This Community Com-
mittee is made up of a chairman,
vice-chairman, regular member,
and two alternates. The Commun-
ity Committeemen serve in an ad-
visory capacity to the County
Committee. This is usually just
three or four days out of the year.
In addition, the County Com-
mittee employs a County Office
Manager. The manager in turn
ensures that the duties of the County office are efficiently performed. The County Committee, you might say, serves as a board of directors with the County Office Manager responsible for carrying out the policies and decisions of the committee or "board."
The County Committee, the County Office Manager are responsible for the overall administration of acreage allotment and marketing quota programs within the county, the Agricultural Conservation Program,
Price Support Loan and Purchase Agreement Programs, and Incentive Payment Programs, as well as the Emergency Feed Program, the Hurricane Relief Program, and any other emergency or special program assigned to ASC.
