HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.
SATURDAY, JUNE 13, 1807.
A Resolve authorising the sale of certain stock of the Commonwealth, passed.
The two Houses, in convention, attended to qualify the Hon. Timothy Newell, as a Counsellor. Who has taken his seat at the board.
A joint Committee was ordered, on the petition of Benjamin Hitchborn, and other Georgia Lands claimants.
Bills. The Buckstown Lands bill; Kennebec bridge bill; Hebron Congregational Society annexation bill: Norfolk Cotton Manufactory bill-all passed various stages.
MONDAY, JUNE 15. 1807.
The two Houses, in Convention, elected the following gentlemen Directors, on the part of the Commonwealth, of the Union and Boston banks;
Union--Hon. Samuel Dana, Mr. Jonathan Harris, Mr. Matthew Bridge, capt Tristram Barnard, Mr. Ebenezer Larkin, and cpt. John Brazer. The two latter gentlemen in the room of Dr. Spring, and Mr. Crowninshield, of Salem.
Boston--Hon. William Eustis, Aaron H. Hill, David Tilden, capt. Thomas Hardy, capt. Ralph Smith, and capt. David Bradley.
Messrs. Storer, Whitman & Bangs, were appointed to consider the Judiciary system, and report at the next session.
Petitions--of Julius Howes, and others; of Dutton; E. Stowell (referred); G. Williams (referred); D. Williams, and others: A. Rice (referred); A. Newhall; J. Borland, and others; J. Smell, and others; D. Neal, and others; M. Greenleaf, and others: J. Hoyt, and others; J. Tucker, and others; Topsfield Selectmen; J. Stevens: and J.J. North-were variously acted upon; and others of notice directed upon some of them-others had leave for bills, &c.
Bills.--The Damariscotta Fishery bill; Massachusetts Missionary Society bill (referred); General Turnpike additional bill; and bill for relief of poor prisoners--all passed various stages.
The joint Committee on the petition of capt. Joseph Loring, jun. reported that the order of the Commander in Chief for the organization of the Sublegion of Light Infantry, was illegal; and the proceedings predicated thereupon, of course, void.
TUESDAY, JUNE 16, 1807.
A resolve passed respecting leasing the Province House, so called.
Bills.--The Petersham, &c. Turnpike bill: Bristol, Noblesboro' and New-Castle Alewife fishery bills: Kennebec bridge bill; and Topsham sluice-way bill-passed, principally, to be engrossed.
Resolves.--In favor of Simon Crosby; for altering the sitting of the Supreme Judicial Court at Castine, and for altering the time of sitting of the Hancock county court, passed. A resolve passed the Senate, granting to the Massachusetts Medical Society a township of land, for the encouragement of Medical Inquiries: The question to concur, was negatived: but afterwards the vote was so far re-considered as to refer it to the next session.
Three remonstrances against granting the prayer of the petition of A. Craigie, were received, and read.
A report, referring to the Governor and Council the controversy respecting the location of the Canal Bridge, came from the Senate: The question to concur was debated the principal part of the day in the House, and negatived, 80 to 35.
