Full Text

To-day we publish on the first page, the proceedings of a meeting at Harrisburg, on the 21st ult., at which Gen. Cass was nominated for the Presidency. We are not by any means disposed to treat this demonstration lightly. The appearance of Cass in the field has caused some fluttering among both parties, and not without reason. It may be noted that the Harrisburg meeting is styled 'Democratic:' so too the Washington Globe calls it. We have no objection to the term in this connection, for we have reason to believe that Gen. Cass is, in some points of his political creed, a sound Democratic Whig.
A very short time, however, will remove all the mist over this ground, as the return of the nominee from France, is expected shortly, and a definition of his position will follow of course.—North American.
