Full Text
Old Age and Youth—A short Domestic Sketch.—A gentleman, whom we will call Mr. Blanco, says the Yreka Union, aged about forty, lately became enamored of a young lady of about thirteen, (there are no children in California,) whose name we will call, for resemblance sake, Miss Pillar, who, with the approval of her parents, consented to deck with the garlands of her youth and beauty the winter of his declining age. Subsequently the venerable Lothario finds his betrothed in a miner's cabin, dancing with the 'boys;' reproves her for her want of propriety, gets abused, kicked and a shoe thrown in his face for taking improper liberties in trying to "kiss and make up;" becomes frightened and insulted, and leaves for Walla Walla. Will not probably return.
