James Stocks, defending Imperial county singles champion, Wednesday held the favorite spot in the annual valley tournament as semi-finalists and finalists of seven divisions sharpened games for Sunday's climax matches at the El Centro tennis courts. Stocks' stiffest assignment when he clashes with Jack Bowker, Calexico high school player. Jack is the only tournament entrant who survived play in two divisions, men singles and junior men.

Bowker is favored to advance to the finals of the junior men where he will probably meet his brother, Walter. Jack plays Howard Green of Yuma. Walter plays Jack Candland of Calexico in semi-final matches.

Mary Margaret Gressor and Adella Van Zandt, both unseeded, will play in the finals of the women's division. Miss Gressor will be heavily favored because she eliminated second-seeded Doris Chestnut in the quarter-finals.
