Attempt Made To Wreck Train

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif., Aug 3. (U.P.)-Disgruntled employees were thought today to be responsible for placing four ties on the Santa Fe tracks near Cucamonga, an action that might have caused the wrecking of one of the transcontinental passenger trains of the line.

The ties were not fastened down so the engine of an eastbound flyer brushed three of them aside and a fourth was picked up by the cowcatcher.

Railroad detectives and deputy sheriffs were attempting today to identify footprints found in sand near the spot where the ties were placed across the rails.
