Jeffersonville (O.) Jottings.
At this date, July 7th, harvest is in full blast.
The crop is an average one- say 16 bus. per acre, all over the country with the quality far above the average.
Binders are as common as sewing machines; our country is well adapted to their use, it being level. The average daily cut of a machine is about 12 acres with three horses to the machine.
Two men do the shocking after one machine and the price paid is $1.50 per day
The kind of wheat grown is white and red Fultz-Longberry and Egyptian.
The present market price is quoted at 90 to 95, no new in market yet.
Threshing is mostly done from shock that begins as soon as harvesting is done.
Machine men charge 4 cents pr. bus. and furnish a brigade of men and horses for you to board.
Some fields in our township are estimated to yield 35 bus. pr. acre.
The Traction engines for threshers are coming into general use.
The prospect for corn was never better Shoulder high and well plowed.
White clovers are plentiful hence bees are a success and honey abundant.
Drive over friend Cassell and sweeten up We have 26 colonies in our door yard.
We use the extractor for profit but surplus frames for style.
Just enough rain to keep corn growing and insure us good timothy meadows.
