FRIDAY THE 13TH
By F. S. Sullivan
The 13th fell on Friday, the Hun's unlucky day, and General John J. Pershing's anniversary.
Great Pershing rose up early up on that Friday morn, and says, "I'm going to celebrate the day that I was born, Of years full eight and fifty have passed along their way since first I opened up my eyes upon the light of day.
My life has been a busy one, and ere the day is done I'm going to see that business picks up for the Hun." He signalled to his bugler who sounded an advance that was echoed through the valleys and from the hills of France.
And lo, a million stalwarts answered to the call, and o'er the German army there hung an awe-ful pall. A pall of death and terror that filled them all with fright, and doused their lamp of courage, and put them all to flight. And when the day was ended ten thousand of their host had been turned into prison camps, ten thousand more to ghosts.
All hail the name of Pershing! All hail to his birthday! All hell is filled with Boche who fell on his anniversary.
