Tchula Methodist Church Named "Outstanding Church Of Year"
Tchula Methodist Church has been selected the "Church of the Year" by the Greenwood District Town and Country Committee. By the same token the church's pastor, the Rev. Wilson Ray was named "Pastor of the Year" in the District.
The district is composed of 82 Methodist churches with 32 Pastoral appointments.
Contestants for the award were churches at Coffeeville, Durant, Carrollton and Tchula. Selection for the annual award is made on program of Stewardship, membership and Evangelism, Mission, Christian Education, Worship and Church physical improvements.
The Tchula church has a total membership of 208 members. The Rev. Ray is in his fourth year at Tchula Methodist church. He came here from Duncan. A 1944 graduate of Millsaps with a B. A. degree, the Rev. Ray is married and has four children, Franklin, 14, Marcia, 12, Andy, 9 and David Guy, 7. In 1949 he graduated from Chandler School of Theology in Atlanta with a B. D. degree.
REV. WILSON RAY
He was born in McCool and is the son of a retired Methodist Minister the Rev. Guy Ray.
The church has a very active Youth program, and an active Women's Mission Group. Over the past year average Sunday school attendance has increased from 90 to 108 with an enrollment of 140.
The church is completing an improvement program with a new side walk and approaches to the church being installed.
