COLUMBUS - For the first time, a separate sale of prize steers will be staged in the Junior Division of the Centennial Ohio State Fair here August 26 to September 1. it was announced today by D. Robert Jones, assistant fair manager. J. H. Warner. Ohio State University beef and cattle specialist, will head the new feature, which exhibitors under 21 years of age will welcome as an accommodation. Paul Cunningham, Delaware county agent; Daryl Sharp, vocational agriculture instructor at Minster, and Jay Scholl, Millersport farmer, will assist Warner in the new event. A competent, experienced auctioneer will sell the prize steers, Jones said. All major buyers in the midwest will be notified of the new sale in the Junior Division Arena at 1:30 p. m., Thursday, August 31. In previous years, any Junior exhibitor who wanted to sell any stock had to be worked into the Senior Livestock sales program. "The Junior sale will also eliminate the need for the youngsters to haul their stock back home," Jones said. "I likewise will provide valuable experience in sales techniques." Jones said the sale will be patterned after the Senior counterpart and it will be able to handle all steers brought in by the youthful competitors. He added, however, that no exhibitor will be under any obligation to sell. Steers will be judged starting at 9 a. m., Tuesday, August 29, Jones said. They will sell Thursday in the order placed. No Agglutination Blood Test will be necessary, Jones added.
