New York. Aug. 15.-Rose Waterman thirteen years of age, lived with her parents in West Forty-third street. In the adjoining house, resides William Degroot, sixteen years old. Rose was a school girl and Willie a school boy, and both were greatly attached to each other. During the warm evenings they were in the habit of spending their time on the roofs of their respective dwellings. At 8 o'clock last evening half a dozen children were on the roof, and Rose and Willie were among them. Rose, who was generally a light-hearted girl, appeared sad. She remained aside for about fifteen minutes, and then approaching Willie told him that she was tired of life and placed a rose in his button-hole. In speaking to him afterward she said, "You will never see me again, for my folks are going to Boston." Her actions attracted his attention and he tried to quiet her. She then made a rush for a parapet in the rear part of the roof, but he prevented her from jumping and she said to him, "You'd better leave me alone." About ten minutes later, as Willie and some other boys were talking together, they saw her leap from the parapet. She fell four stories into the yard below. Physicians were called to attend her and found her in an unconscious state, in which she remained until she expired at 9 o'clock. She was a remarkably pretty girl, and though only thirteen years of age was tall and well developed. Her parents are almost heart-broken over the suicide. Willie Degroot could not be seen.
