TO THE EDITOR OF THE SUN—Sir: In its report of the political situation THE SUN of Sunday says
Two members of the State (Republican) Committee said last night that it would be good policy to make a bid for the Irish vote by nominating either James Redpath or Gen. James O'Brien for Congressman at Large.
When James Redpath consents to be used as bait to catch Irish votes for a ticket nominated by fraud and forgers, I hope that every Irishman in America will regard him with as much contempt as he will regard every Irishman who, at the next election, consents to degrade himself by voting for the candidate of the President who permitted American citizens of Irish birth to lie in English jails without any earnest or honest action to protect them, and who went out of his way to insult them at a time when their kinsmen in Ireland were deprived of all civil rights, by saluting the British flag at Jamestown.
I hope also that this card will put a stop, once for all, to all suggestions that, in any circumstances, I shall consent to become a candidate for any office whatever.
