The Cuban question is still absorbing a large share of public attention, people are becoming divided upon the proper policy for this country to pursue. That we should immediately proclaim war against Spain, and proceed to take possession of Cuba, the leading tone of public sentiment is in favor of a pacific policy. In view of possible hostilities the war department has been quite active of late in dusting up and putting into proper shape the implements of war. We are inclined to the opinion that we will soon see a policy inaugurated that will lead to a settlement of the strife that has raged for so many years on the island of Cuba. This government will interfere in some manner. It is inclined to be pacific, and will seek an amicable co-operation with Spain in a settlement of the complications which have already arisen. It will depend altogether upon the temper of Spain whether war ensues. But this government will never drop this subject until peace is restored to the unhappy people of Cuba, and it ought not to.
