MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The white woman who braved an angry mob outside Little Rock's Central High School to offer sympathy to a weeping Negro school girl, has been cited for contempt by the State Internal Security Subcommittee here.
The subcommittee Tuesday charged Mrs. Grace Lorch, wife of a white professor at a Negro college in Little Rock, with trying to "disrupt" their investigation of alleged Communist activities in Tennessee, Kentucky and nearby areas.
Mrs. Lorch, appearing before the group with a prepared statement, began each answer with "I am here under protest."
Sen. William E. Jenner (R-Ind.) became disturbed at the woman's approach and shouted: "You're a troublemaker, aren't you? We don't care what you did in Little Rock. We are concerned with the threat of communism in this nation. We want to know if you were a member of the Communist party in Boston .."
"I am here under protest," the woman began her answer again.
