Game Laws.--Some time since, at Niblo's, a meeting was held to devise means for the protection of the game in the vicinity of this city, which, from the violators of the law ordaining that no birds shall be shot out of season, has become of late very scarce. A meeting was held for a similar purpose some time ago at Philadelphia, the object of which more particularly was to secure the game by some such laws as exist in England. This can never be effected either here or in any part of the Union-it militates against the rights of the citizen-it is inimical to the principles upon which the constitution is based.
In Philadelphia they found out this, and abandoning the idea, very wisely adopted an excellent precaution against wanton despoliation. They formed a committee of gentlemen to watch for those delinquents who warred upon the young birds-who, during the time of breeding, used their guns; and they resolved to publish the names of all those who were found in the act.
Nothing can be better than this. It will tend more than any thing else to preserve the game. Let it be generally adopted.
