An Americanism assembly is scheduled for 9 a.m., Monday in the Kenai High School gymnasium culminating a month-long observance of Americanism under the sponsorship of the American Legion Auxiliary No. 20.
Richard I. Eliason, Alaskan commander of the Legion, will address the gathering and present awards for participation in the observance to the grade school rooms.
The project has developed considerable activity, interest and cooperation during the month. They have used song fests, posters, scrap books, essays, stories and research to develop the idea of Americanism.
One group, Mrs. Mary Cline's third grade class, appeared on the Kenai Ranger program, Channel eight, last Tuesday, to present their project.
Mrs. Allen Peterson, chairman of the American committee, has been assisted in the project by members of the auxiliary. Mildred James, Mina Sample, Betty Sundt and Jessie Munson.
Tustumena School has also been participating in the Americanism program and are hoping to have the commander visit their school Monday.
One of the goals of the project is to promote the Legion slogan, "Own a Flag and Fly Your Flag."
