(From the Rockingham Register.)

It affords us a considerable degree of satisfaction to lay the following letter, received by Wednesday's mail, before our readers:

May 4th, 1835.

Mr. Editor:—The "Whig" of a late date contains a letter, written at Harrisonburg, which, in giving an account of the result of the election there, and other matters, says, that I had declared myself in favor of Judge White for the Presidency. This I think proper to deny. Ever since Judge White and his friends had refused to submit his pretensions to the decision of a Convention of the friends of the present Administration—had evinced a willingness to divide the party with whom he formerly acted, and to throw the main chance of his election upon the support of our political adversaries, I have thought it my duty, and have so repeatedly declared it in public, (without intending any disrespect to Judge White, for whom I entertain a favourable opinion,) to sustain the candidate who will be brought out by the concerted efforts of the Democratic party. If Mr. Van Buren is the man, I will support him, not only as a matter of policy, but now, as a matter of choice between those who have been spoken of for the Presidency.

Very respectfully,
JAMES M. H. BEALE
