Yesterday afternoon, the question on the third reading of a bill, originated in the Senate, granting a lottery to the Corporation, &c. of Harvard College, to raise eight thousand pounds, in four years, for the purpose of creating an additional building, came on in the House of Representatives. The bill was strenuously opposed by Dr. Jarvis, Mr. Edwards, Col. Reid, Col. Barnes, and others : And as ably advocated by Mr. Sewall, Dr. Eustis, Mr. Slocum, Mr. Freeman, Mr. Davis, Mr. Williams, and others. Mr. Martin spoke both for and against the bill: the debate which was lengthy and spirited, continued till seven o'clock, when the question being taken by yeas and nays, it passed in the affirmative—73 Yeas to 59 Nays.
