The picture of the air tour, shows the route the fifty mile air tour will include, starting at 9 a.m. and going in continuous flights until 4 p.m. Towns in Madison County that will be seen from the air will be Sedalia, London, Mt. Sterling, Somerford, Plumwood and Lafayette.
Farm land several miles on each side of the proposed route will be observed from the air. Specific farm practices will be pointed out on the following farms. The number corresponds with those on the map: No. 1 George Jones' Farm, Wood cleared; fences relocated; No. 2—J. E. Sidner Farm, Constructed waterway; No. 3—Madison Lake; No. 4—Clarence Garen Farm, Improved pastures, beef cattle feeding layout; No. 5—R. H. Gittins Farm, Effect of nitrogen on corn, improved pastures; No. 6—William Folsom Farm, Comparison of good and poor land, field recently purchased adjoining this farm; Between 6 and 7 are most of the Farmers' Home Administration Farm Ownership Farms; No. 7—H. H. Pancake Farm, Constructed waterway; No. 8—Roy E. Craig and Son Farm, Effect of nitrogen on corn; productive meadows; No. 9—S. E. Robinson Farm, heavy nitrogen on corn; No. 10 Henry Clark Farm, New field and building layout; No. 11—Madison County Experiment Farm, Experimental plots, productive meadows; No. 12—Bessie and Philip Ferguson Farm, Grass water, multiflora rose fence; No. 13—Orleton Farm, Site of field day and air tour, nitrogen fertilizer on corn.
If any farmer has farm practices that will show up particularly clear from the air, he should notify the Madison County Extension Office or the Soil Conservation Office and those practices will be pointed out by Paul Baughman to the ones going up for the airplane ride the day of the tour.
Hay choppers, blowers, balers, and rakes of all types and makes will be on display and will be demonstrated during the day. The tractor rodeo for all F.F.A. and 4-H members will be part of the afternoon program. This activity includes pulling a side delivery rake through a series of narrow staked off lanes and backing a four wheeled wagon through a narrow lane.
Farm groups cooperating in sponsoring this all day activity are as follows: Soil Conservation district Supervisors, Madison County Machinery dealers, Farmer's Home Administration, PMA Committee, County Vocational Agriculture Departments, the Agricultural Extension Service and the Soil Conservation Service.
Fertilizer plots on soybeans will be able to be observed will include: Plot No. 1—400 pound of 0-12-12 drilled on before planting, plus 150 pound of 0-12-12 in the row. Plot No. 2—300 pound of 0-12-12 in the row. Plot No. 3—150 pound of 0-12-12 in the row.
The corn fertilizer plots include: Plot No. 1—400 pound of 10-10-10 drilled on before planting, plus 300 pound of 3-12-12 in the row. Plot No. 2—300 pound of 3-12-12 in the row. Plot No. 3—150 pound of 3-12-12 in the row. Plot No. 4—No fertilizer. Plot No. 5—300 pound of 10-10-10 in the row. Plot No. 6—300 pound of 3-12-12 in the row, plus 40 pound of actual nitrogen side dressed in the form of Anhydrous Ammonia.
E. P. Reed, Extension Agricultural Agronomist from Ohio State University, will discuss corn and soybean fertilizer recommendations, to the group.
Sam Huber, Extension Specialist in Agricultural Engineering at Ohio State University will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of hay making with field choppers.
Detailed programs can be obtained from one of the sponsoring groups after July 18.
