ROBBED A REGISTERED LETTER.

A Letter Sent from Santa Anna to Fort Worth Rifled of its Contents.

Special to the Gazette.

Santa Anna, Tex., Oct. 7. On September 30 J. F. Wofford, one of our leading merchants of this place, registered a letter containing $125 in currency to B. C. Evans & Co., Fort Worth, Tex. The letter reached its destination in apparently good order, but upon opening it was found to be short the money. The envelope was turned over to the postmaster at Fort Worth and no doubt the matter will undergo a rigid examination as Mr. Wofford is perfectly reliable and stands as high as any man so far as honor is concerned. There is no doubt but the money was abstracted from the envelope. There are two other similar cases of recent date, except that the letters were recovered at this office and were of less value.
