Full Text
As a former teacher in the public schools of Montgomery County, Maryland I here express strong opposition to the elimination of all religious observances in our public schools. I am happy to affirm that when I taught in the elementary grades I was privileged to use the Biblical Psalms and the Lord's Prayer.
Discipline was no problem.
There was evidenced respect for God and parents. I agree with one who has recently and publicly said that he supports the view that non-sectarian prayer and inspirational readings are a unifying experience and contribute to an understanding of the brotherhood of all mankind and help the schools to develop character."
Education without commensurate character building to provide divine inspiration and guidance for our youth and children is dangerous. Our heritage has been a rich and a sound one. Let us preserve it.
