Hearst No President Breaker.

One of the distinct gains of the recent presidential campaign is evidence afforded that William Randolph Hearst, millionaire publisher of newspapers and magazines on a large scale, is no president-breaker.

It will be remembered that Mr. Hearst supported President Roosevelt four years ago. In some quarters his aid is considered valuable, although many leading Republicans, as well as Democrats, regard it as a liability.

We have no disposition to deny Mr. Hearst the right to express himself as he sees fit on all issues before the American people. However, a careful study of his journals will reveal that they tend to arouse emotional reaction, stir up prejudice and inflame nationalism.

Granting to Mr. Hearst his full rights, it is none the less gratifying to realize that the American people have sense enough to discount most of his attacks and to disbelieve the silly charges that are adroitly propagated in the press which he controls.
