Counterfeiters at Fincastle.—At the Superior Court for the county of Botetourt, which commenced at this place on Monday last, the only criminal trials which took place were those of Abner Martin and Samuel D. Spencer, on charges connected with counterfeiting and passing base money. The trial of Abner Martin was the first brought on, and after a patient investigation before the Hon. James Allen, which lasted till Thursday evening, the Jury retired, and after a consultation of about 20 minutes, returned into Court with the following verdict: "We find the prisoner guilty, and do adjudge that he be confined in the common jail and penitentiary house of this commonwealth for ten years." Spencer's trial was then proceeded upon, and the Jury retired at two o'clock this day, and returned into Court at half past 3, with the following verdict: "We find the prisoner guilty, and do adjudge that he be confined in the common jail and penitentiary house of this commonwealth for ten years." The trials of Green B. Lewellen for counterfeiting and passing counterfeit notes, and Eli Blankenship, for murder, have been postponed, and a Special Court was appointed by his Honor, which is to meet at Fincastle on the last Monday in October, for the trial of those persons.
