The Times, a day or two since, had some well-timed remarks in regard to the closing of the Winslow House. Our neighbor did not, however, go quite far enough. He should have added that the house he was speaking of wanted a good and honest landlord as well as a reduction of rent by the owners of the premises. Its last man, Dorsey—called by some "Col." Dorsey—got possession of the house some two months since in company with another swindler, like himself, and has continued to keep it upon the non-paying principle. His partner forged a letter of credit in less than a week after he arrived here, and forthwith left. Dorsey has been hanging on until finally "closed out" by his creditors a few days since. On Friday evening he took "leg bail" and left for parts unknown, carrying off hundreds of dollars belonging to his creditors as well as sundry articles of furniture belonging to the house.
We learned on Saturday that the Winslow is shortly to try it again under the charge of a practical landlord from Saratoga, New York. We hope for the permanent establishment of the house as a respectable first class hotel, and are willing to aid it in another trial. The rent has been reduced $1,600; but it will take much time and labor and money to restore public confidence.
