It is strange, says a Gentleman the other Day in a Coffeehouse, that so many of our Representatives should be fond of calling their Constituents Dregs of the People, the Scum of the Earth, and the Rabble, as it is paying but an ill Compliment to themselves, and risking their Seat at a new Election. This, says another, in the Opinion of the Minister's Tools, is one of the most valuable Privileges of Parliament; and for this Purpose are they so anxious that what they say should be kept within Doors, as the making it publick will be a Check to this invaluable Freedom of Speech.
As our Kings, for the Sake of our Religion, always marry with the Daughters of Protestant Powers, they should, says a Correspondent, for the Sake of our Liberty, always marry with the Daughters of a free People.
It is to be lamented that a certain great Lady has such Influence in the Cabinet, as her Principles are as destructive to Liberty as if she had been born in Scotland.
