To the Rev. W. M. Wightman, D. D., Assistant Treasurer of the Missionary Society of the M. E. Church, South.
Dear Brother,--Since my return to the Catoma Mission I have taken in one new appointment of considerable interest and expect to take one or two more. I have received 3 members on trial since my return, and find the mission in tolerable condition. The patrons are kind to me, and favour the mission with their influence. The Catoma Mission lies in Montgomery co., with the exception of one appointment in Lowndes, and is one dense negro quarter in which several Missionaries might be employed to great advantage. I hope the day is not far distant when such will be the case, and when the Ala. Conference will support her Missionaries as does the S. C. Conference from the Missionary Society. Here is a work as important as that of China.

Main Argument
the catoma mission is progressing with new appointments and members, located in a dense negro quarter with great potential for expansion; the alabama conference should provide better support to missionaries as important as those in china.
