CAMPAIGN AGAINST CANCER TO BE $5,000,000 ATTACK

Northeastern Montana along with the rest of the state has completed its organization for the annual enlistment campaign of the American cancer society being conducted this month. Following a nationwide appeal, solicitation will start April 15. At least 75 per cent of all funds contributed in Montana will remain in the state.

Mrs. George Barwise, Wolf Point is commander of this district which comprises the counties of Valley, Roosevelt, Daniels and Sheridan. Mrs. Barwise has been active in this most worthy program for several years past and through her untiring efforts the past campaigns have been very successful.

Mrs. H.W. Bryan. Wolf Point is Roosevelt County Commander and Mrs. Anna Falkenberg. Circle is McCone County Commander.

We call our readers attention to the display announcement of the campaign on page 7 of this issue. The campaign officially opens today, April 5 and solicitation for funds will begin on April 15th.

Mrs. H.W. Peterson of Billings nationally recognized for her work in the crusade against cancer is state commander. Assisted by her district and county commanders and their organizations, she is confident that "Montana's notable achievement in the past will be exceeded this year."

"Seventeen million Americans now living are destined to die of cancer unless we do something about it," Mrs. Peterson said.

"This merciless enemy of man- kindaffects every age group."

During the last seven years cancer has killed two and a half times as many children under 20 in the United States as has infantile paralysis.

"Through education, even on the basis of present knowledge, one-third to one-half the potential victims can be saved. We still need the knowledge which will enable us to save others. There is reason to believe this knowledge can be obtained."

"The 1945 campaign of the American cancer society is being held to finance, for the first time, a great and comprehensive attack on this dread killer. The campaign seeks a total of $5.000.000 for the three main purposes of education, service to patients and research."
